The New Little Boss

I woke up in the middle of the night and felt a mound of fur nestled against my side. It took more than a couple of seconds for me to remember that a new member of the family has arrived and apparently has promptly elected my bed to be his/her favorite snooze spot. I scooped up the bewhiskered ball and gently placed him/her on the floor. A couple of somewhat disappointed, yearning meow’s failed to deter me from drifting back to sleep.

In what felt like an hour later, I was roused once more and again sensed a presence near me. I opened my eyes and blinked a couple of times, hurriedly attempting to make sense of the hazy figure hovering over my face. Once it came into focus, the solid jet black outline jumped out against the darkness of the room. He/she is back, sitting calmly and quietly, his/her steady gaze fixed on me, studying me as it seems. That’s when I realized that no matter how hard I stare, I could not see his/her green eyes. I am looking directly at a very, very black mass. A sudden jolt of freaked out panic surged through me. I was very much awake now, thank you very much. I popped out of bed, snatched him/her up, and (still gently) tossed him/her out the door.

Meet Salem, my slithery, irrepressible stunner of a kitten.

As much as I adore this absurdly bewitching specimen of inky black feline cuteness, this new roommate arrangement definitely needs some work. Receiving wake-up calls from a shadow-like figure, no matter how delightful when bathed in light, will certainly require some getting used to.

P. S. We haven’t bothered to check his/her sex yet. You learn to wait when you (and the vet) have made wrong determinations in the past. No need to confuse the little kitty now, is there? Haha.

The Lockitron and the Lytro

I’ve stumbled upon a couple of pretty interesting gadgets tonight. I know, I know. I have noticed how my blog has taken a sort of materialistic turn lately. But hey, nothing’s wrong with keeping an eye out for some fun and functional toys.

I can definitely use the first one, the Lockitron. I really hate that nagging feeling you get when you’ve stepped out of the house and are halfway to your destination, you stop in your tracks and wonder — did I or did I not lock the door? With this nifty little gadget, you can rest easy and secure your home with just a couple of clicks on your smartphone. On the other hand, it makes me wonder how easy it would be to hack into someone’s phone and gain access to his or her abode.

The next one isn’t new, so some of you may be familiar with it. Being the non-techie that I am, I usually get wind of new gizmos later on. And since everyone’s a photographer these days, I wouldn’t be surprised if you guys already have your eyes on this one. The Lytro camera has the ability to record the entire light field, allowing you to take ‘living pictures’ that you can refocus after you’ve taken them and see the images in different perspectives. With the confounding slew of camera options saturating the market, it might be worth giving this baby a whirl, if only to try shooting pictures with its unconventional boxy form.

On a totally unrelated note, I’ve been under the weather since I got back from my trip last weekend. Having colds and coughing are just so inconvenient! This is worth mentioning only because it’s taking some effort to write this post with my eyes half open and my head feeling like it weighs a ton.

I should probably be looking for remedies instead, no? Must feel better soon!

EDIT: Christmas Gift Wish List :)

So I finally gave in. I already went ahead and purchased the Brushes for Paper on the App Store. Only $10 anyway (See? I know, right? Such a cheapskate!). And since I already have the brushes, I will have to get a stylus soon. Two things off my list and two more things that Santa can send my way. 😀

1. Naked Palette by Urban Decay

This one sells like hotcakes, so good luck, Santa! Lol.

Special thanks to my officemate, Joanne, for reminding me how nice this palette is. 🙂

2. New Running Shoes/Trainers

No preference as of now. I guess this just proves that I’m no runner. Haha. Moreover, this means that I could really use a really cute pair to motivate me to get up and go, right? 😉

Something along these lines would certainly do. Check this, this, and this out!

My Christmas Gift Wish List :)

Christmas shall soon be upon us!!! Yes, those exclamation points belong there. I did yell just now. Not that an announcement is necessary. I’m sure the same thought has been nagging at you these past couple of weeks. What with time seemingly going into high gear every time we hit the final quarter.

Everyone now goes into a pensive mood about it at random moments. I was in one of those impending-Yuletide-season musings when it occurred to me that never in my life have I put a Christmas gift wish list together. I daresay that ain’t such a selfish thought in this season of giving. It’s totally alright to want to reward yourself a little bit. And don’t we all want to rip open colorful, carefully wrapped boxes?

So here are the ten things I’d be over-the-moon merry to find waiting for me on Christmas morning:

1. iPad Stylus

Itching to make more lists like this one on the iPad and actually “write” them down.

2. Paper-FiftyThree Brushes for iPad

These along with the stylus will make for some serious doodling action.

3. Joan Didion’s “Slouching Towards Bethlehem” or Sylvia Plath’s “Ariel”

I’ve been looking for these titles for a while now. Haven’t had any luck yet. They are either out of stock, or the bookstores aren’t carrying them at all.

4. Rip Curl Long Sleeve Rash Guard

An aspiring surfer like me would love to rock this. 🙂

5. Supercrooks Hardcover

I know, I know. I should have this beauty by Mark Millar and Leinil Yu already. So help me out here? 🙂

6. Pole Dance Grip Aids

As the name suggests, grip aids such as Dry Hands really help keep palms dry, which is of absolute necessity for climbing the poles and doing all those tricks and twirls. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s available here in Manila. It is, in the US and Australia, though. (Yes, brother, I am looking at you. You do read this blog, don’t you? :P)

7. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Sunscreen and Philip Kingsley Swimcap

The sun, sea, and sand calleth!

8. Rip Curl Overnighter Bag

Yet another beach implement I’d like in my arsenal. 🙂

9. MAC Fluidline Eyeliner Gel in Blacktrack

With the brush too, please! 🙂

10. Button down knit Cardigan

In bright or basic hues or fun prints, you can never go wrong with such a snuggly classic. Just ask her.

That wraps it up for me! What’s on your wish lists? Start jotting them down. Who knows? Santa might be a blog-lovin’ netizen too!
